Abington has undergone significant growth recently. In 1990 it had a population of 12,659; this grew to 14,012 by 2000. This growth has continued with new developments such as Abington Crossing and Altavista Woods, adding more than 400 units each since 2016. The town’s commercial center has also seen considerable expansion since 2002, with two major shopping plazas being built on either side of Route 18. The city is also home to several historic sites. The most notable of these is the Abington Armory, built-in 1744 and served as a storage facility for the Massachusetts militia during the American Revolution.
